I know these are bad emails and I delete them immediately and then empty my trash bin. These are my questions about them.
They are all structured the same. They look like 3 different stories mixed up together. The sentences don’t make sense, why?
They all have a link. And the ones I’ve been getting are websites in Geociies. Because it’s free?
What is supposed to happen if I clicked on the link? (Which I never would)
Here is a sentence from one:
I've been out in the country with will several to hang jewels in. And hetty must be one of them:
Can someone explain these emails to me?
Is there someplace I can report them? _________________ mary jones

This may surprise you, but I get about 2000 of these a day. The spam is generated from some kind of software the spammers use based on popular keywords and subjects. It is hard to believe that people fall for these emails the way they are written, but they do so the motivation for the spammers to continue is increased day by day.
They are going for the numbers. The more emails they send the more clicks they get whether they are accidental or not.
There are a number of things that could happen if you click on the links. One is that it could deposit a small tracking program on your computer which could record keystrokes you make, which in the worse case scenario it would record how you log into your online banking and steal your identity. Others are just looking for traffic to there websites in hopes of selling you something.
There are many other reasons, but that should give you an general idea. I use a program called MailWasher Pro which cuts about 95% of my spam so out of 2000 emails I get per day I will only get 20-30 spams a day. I am super happy about that. MailWasher Pro will even report the spammers to the spam cops. That alone is worth it.
Check it out. MailWasher Pro |
