This is one of the coolest effects I've seen lately. It has appeared in national ad campaigns as well as a major motion picture.

I have noticed a number of people are fascinated by this effect, so I thought it would be fun to post a tutorial.

Step one:
Open an image that you would like to use this effect on. I chose my wife's cousin Charles who lives with us and is currently looking for a girlfriend that will treat him right.

Step two:
Use your favorite selection tool to select the person from the background.

Step three:
After you have made your selection press Control-J to put the selection to it's own layer.

Step four:
Go to the filter menu and select Artistic->Poster Edges. In this example I used the settings Edge Thickness 1, Edge Intensity 1 and Posterization 1. Click OK. Depending on your resolutions and the size of your image you may need to experiment to get the desired effect.

Step five:
Go into the style menu and select Stroke, apply a width of 2, and select center (settings may vary).

Step five:
Go into the style menu and select Drop Shadow, lower the opacity to 40%, change the distance to around 80 and and the size to 5 (settings may vary). That's it!
