I might be missing something, but I have a really hard time creating pages with different fonts, colors, anything really creative in Joomla, it's all very time consuming. And if I try to create in another program, copy and paste, I lose my formatting when I save the page. I use as much of the options within Joomla, but because they are so time consuming, I would like to find an easier way. Is there an easier way?

Let's see.

Your site is a Joomla based backend/admin area. But you are also running another script on top of that core that makes your site what it is.

The good news is both the core Joomla and the added script both use the same WYSIWYG editor. (WYSIWYG pronounced wizi-wig, is an acronym for "What You See Is What You Get")

Now with any WYSIWYG editor there are going to be pros and cons. Basicly it's an HTML editor built into your website. Whatever you do there is going to be converted to HTML when saved.

You are limited to the functions of the editor and how it works. Some editors are more robust, others are stripped down. But no matter the style, they are solely there to help a user do HTML style commands without having to know code.

One thing Tiger Team Solutions always does, is go an extra step and define a full CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) that should take care of all the font sizes, colors, padding, font styles, link colors, etc.

We do this so that our client's websites are clean and professional. Most users do not bother with font style changes, font size changes, or even color. By default this is already set to match their website template. In the editor it may look like black text with bright blue links... however, because there are no over-riding styles added by the user, once it is published it defaults to what we have programmed for it to look like.

The main reason for this is consistency through out the website. Consistency brings with it a huge amount of professionalism.

To quote an article on our site about web site design:
Quote:
Consistency - A site must have a consistent page layout and design. Inconsistencies force visitors to spend additional time trying to figure out how to navigate and how to find the information they need. The visitor will be more comfortable navigating a site knowing that the navigation is always at the same place on each page and that they won't have to step backwards to get where they need to go.

Now... being consistent doesn't mean that you cannot be creative.

1. If you want default elements changed, just let us know. For example, if you'd like your links another color, we can do that in a way that you don't have edit them every time.

2. You can be creative and add images, adjust elements, etc. Just as long as you are consistent from one page to the next.

But to get back to your main question... making it easier. Right now you are working in a "middle ground" between being a HTML programmer and having someone else do everything for you. You know enough to get in and edit content, but may not understand how code works to get the job done.

As I have said above, we have tried to take the stress out for you. 1. In making default settings. 2. Providing a program that allows you to edit it through the WYSIWYG aspect.

So the next step in getting more creative actually can be harder, as there is a learning curve. You can start learning HTML and work with a offline html editor to produce the html for you and then copy that into the code view in Joomla.

But here is the rub... if you use a program (like front page, for example) it will create code embedded in the HTML that you will have to know enough about to remove it, or otherwise it might conflict with your current site code.

It's a tight rope walk really. It can be difficult to learn HTML and other programming languages... but the reward is a little more speed and freedom vs. It can be a little clunky at times to use the wysiwyg editor... but you don't have to learn anything at all, and you already have some control.

We have clients all the time come to us wanting a dynamic system put in place because they have a static website and no knowledge on how to edit it... so you are in a good position where you are in between at the moment.

Ok... so that was the long answer. Here's the short version...
Is there an easier way? Not really. You are already on the easier path.

I guess that's why so many people (not refering to you) get frustrated when they have their brother-in-law build them a website... because it seems like it should be nothing to get a site up, and many people do... but when it's time to maintain it, it's more difficult then they imagined. So, even the easy route can be more difficult then expected.

And of course that and the fact that HTML standards are ever changing are the reasons we can call this a real full-time job vs. getting to play golf half the day. Smile Laughing

Ok, I get you, but.... when I change a page already in my website, I actually select and just retype. I don't want to make any changes to most of the content as far as font style, size, color, etc. BUT there is one page that should be kind of different on my website everytime and that is the customers "webpage" (that's what I like to call them) or ad. If you look at my website, you know that we are a service directory (I'm only going into this for the purpose of the question), anyway, the people that place their listing with us want something "eye catching" "interesting" to look at and not like the last one they saw. So.... I try to fix 'em up! I figured out a few things, like insert/edit image and the edit css style. I can even go into the html editor and look at the html on a portion of the listing they send me and what that html does and find the "spot" for the same html in another portion of the listing and make a change to the html there to duplicate or make a change. I just wish there was an easier way, like in a Word Document, just push the little button. And when I create something in a Word document and copy and paste, half the time when I save, all the formatting disappeares... Oh, woe is me!
