I insert a lot of images in Joomla and I really think I'm not doing it as I should. There is a free website that I upload my images to, then copy the url and in the insert/edit image box within Joomla I paste that url.
I've gone back and looked at some of the images that my webdesigners put on my website and I see they are coming from "solarflare"? I'm always concerned about something happening to this free website, what would happen to all my images I've placed on my website?

Within Joomla is there a place to "store" my images to use on different pages?

Solarflare is the folder your site template is in. It is part of your website. I would avoid using any other outside service.

Photobucket, flicker, etc.... those are great for things that don't matter (forum avatars, image posts on social networks, attaching images on forums), BUT I would never depend on it for a website that I was making money from. Mainly for the same reason you mentioned... If they go out of business, change their business model, etc. You could be stuck having to redo all of that.

Plus, you are depending on display the images. If their site is down, you will get broken images.

From within Joomla's admin you can go to the media manager and upload images directly to your own hosting... That's what I would recommend.

Thank you so much. I will look at this and probably get back to you with questions.
